CMPIEC was established on 23/03/2023 and registered by the Registry of Legal Entities, under the Unique Legal Entity Number (NUEL): 101955273 and the Unique Tax Identification Number (NUIT): 401563296.
I had the audacity to found CMPIEC during my specialization journey in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation, in the last module of the course entitled “Human Dimensions of Climate Change”. Along this journey, I became increasingly aware of the importance of implementing the circular economy and its significant impact for Mozambique. I believed that introducing the circular economy in Mozambique would be like planting a seed in fertile soil, ensuring the livelihoods of future generations and the sustainability of resources.
During my scientific investigations, I identified complex issues across the Mozambican territory, such as economic inequality, climate change, poverty, and globalization. I realized that the trend and frequency of these problems could become constant if there were no efforts to mitigate, adapt, or even eradicate them. In Mozambique, these problems are already visible to the naked eye, especially the threats of climate change that endanger biodiversity and the coastal population. It is worrying to note that the rate of sea level rise in Mozambique is higher than the global average, mainly because over 65% of the population lives in coastal areas. These imminent threats can result in loss of human lives, infrastructure, wetlands, biodiversity, and much more.
Estevão Mazuze is the CEO and founder of CMPIEC. He holds a degree in oceanography and master’s degrees in Disaster Risk Management and Adaptation to Climate Change and Natural Disasters. An expert in system impact assessment and analysis, he is also an environmental and social activist, as well as co-founder and chairman of the board of MARMO (Mar Moçambique).
Estêvão holds various business-related qualifications, including three years of experience in student association leadership and university management as President of NECMC-UEM.
The CMPIEC team is multidisciplinary, distinguished by its teamwork skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability. Comprised of professionals specialized in various fields, including environmental engineering, disaster management and climate change adaptation, innovation and design, as well as circular economy. These experts possess knowledge in waste management, recycling, water treatment, and process development to transform waste into resources, along with skills to identify innovation opportunities in the circular economy and design new business models and products.
Additionally, the team includes researchers and scientists with academic backgrounds in areas related to the circular economy, such as environmental sciences, engineering, economics, and business management, capable of conducting research, analyzing trends, and developing new insights in the field. Finally, CMPIEC also has experts in communication and engagement, responsible for communicating and educating on circular economy concepts and disaster management to diverse audiences, engaging stakeholders, conducting awareness campaigns, and facilitating collaboration among different sectors.
